What is the Best Breakfast?

Nutella-french-toast-large "The one your children will eat" according to Connie Evers
author of How to Teach Nutrition to Kids. She is promoting the importance of eating breakfast with
her new book and has partnered up with the European company Nutella to
literally spread the word about
nutrition.

Kids who eat breakfast have a better overall diet and
have an easier time regulating their weight than children who wait until later
to eat. Studies have shown that kids who eat breakfast have better test scores
as well but all of this evidence does not help that fact that 50% of children
in America do not eat breakfast. If you have a picky eater who is not hungry in
the morning or just don’t seem to have time to sit down to eat, here are some
tips to get you started on the right track:

1.
Lead by
example
and eat something for breakfast. Even if it is just a piece of
toast, your kids will pick up on the fact that their parents have good eating
habits and so should they.

2.
Make sure to add variety to your food. This will keep children interested in
eating in the morning.

3.
Provide
small portions
. Little tummies cannot handle large amounts of food in the
morning. Especially if you have a picky eater, start small and work your way up
to a full meal.

When I was invited to an event to promote Nutella I
thought, a chocolate spread for kids Breakfasts ? How could this possibly be
good for me or my children? After listening to Connie and carefully examining
the label I discovered the following. Nutella is better for kids than most
jams, jellies, and syrup and is corn syrup, peanut, and gluten free. It also makes
a nice addition to fruits and whole grains which most children won’t touch. I
began to like this idea more than I thought I would.

So in the spirit of healthy eating, I woke up this
morning, had my coffee, and sat down with my daughters to eat some Nutella and
whole wheat toast. It was delicious.
